LCC was the design and build contractor for Yakiniku Like at Westfield Stratford City, a Japanese yakiniku BBQ restaurant where every guest grills at their own table. We designed the restaurant, secured the landlord’s approvals and built it, and it opened to the public in December 2025 on the date agreed with the centre.

The brief

Yakiniku Like serves quick, affordable Japanese BBQ, with a grill at every seat. The brand needed an efficient dining room, a compact kitchen and a shopfront that stands out in a busy shopping centre, with one team responsible from first sketch to opening day.

Design and approvals with the landlord

Westfield reviews every new tenant’s design in stages. Our architects prepared the concept and detailed design, the shopfront and signage drawings, and the mechanical and electrical design, and took them through each stage of the landlord’s review. We coordinated the ventilation, sprinkler and fire alarm changes with the centre’s engineers and agreed the fire strategy before works began. How our landlord approval process works.

Building in a live centre

The works ran inside a trading shopping centre, behind a branded hoarding, with deliveries booked through the centre’s service yard. LCC acted as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor under the CDM Regulations, and the project was notified to the HSE. Our site manager and supervisor ran the site daily and held the centre’s permits for hot works and work on live fire systems.
